When to plant in the Pacific Northwest? April or so - pretty much as early as you can get things going in the spring. You pretty much need to get started in a coldframe or greenhouse to extend the season to grow a big one.

Dear Mr. PumpkinCam,
I looked in your FAQ but didn't see an answer to my question. How long does it take a pumpkin to rot? I got a pumpkin about three weeks ago. I was going to carve it into a Jack O'Lantern, but didn't. Carved pumpkins seem to rot pretty quickly, but this one still seems fine. I'd like to keep it on my deck until at least Thanksgiving, but I don't want to have it suddenly melt into a pile of rotten pumpkin goo. So tell me, just how look will an uncarved pumpkin last?

My husband discovered your pumpkin website, and I'm been fascinated both with the cam site and with the huge pumpkins. I'm a fellow gardener and work for the City of Lake Oswego at historic Luscher Farm as Garden Coordinator. Next year we hope to have a go at raising pumpkins, and I could sure use some hints. Could we get together sometime at your convince, or could you give me some hints/tips/books to research?
Let me know if you might be interested in meeting at the farm (Rosemont and Stafford), and I could show you around. Who knows, maybe your fame could grow!! Luscher Farm is an organic farm and last year we had 70+ gardeners, with more planned for next year. We have a separate children's garden and think pumpkins would be a lot of fun.
Hoping to hear from you.
